Campaigning the old-fashioned way

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Contact Shannon Stone, Campaign Manager, (920) 737-3546

Traveling the 5th Assembly District by bicycle is candidate Craig Fletcher’s way to get in touch with the citizens of the district. Crisscrossing the towns, villages, and suburbs, and riding down the highways, byways and residential streets using a frugal but old-fashioned method is a good way to see the area, meet the people, listen to their concerns and save gasoline as well.

Fletcher says it’s a more personal way and that it often is a conversation starter. It offers him a new perspective as well. He hopes to represent the people of the 5th Assembly District in Madison and there is no better way to learn about the area and the geography, the traffic patterns and places of interest, and the history and values of the people than on a bicycle. It is truly a down-to-earth experience, even if a bit wet and rainy this year.

In the very recent past, those who campaigned for office often had little one-on-one contact with the people they wished to represent. In 2010, things have changed drastically, one reason being many citizens are more tuned in and turned on to candidates and their campaigns. Because of this many candidates are going door-to-door to meet their prospective constituents. So, if you live in the 5th Assembly District, and a man on a bicycle rides up to your door, you can almost be certain it’s Craig Fletcher, eager to meet you and have a short chat. “I’m excited to meet the people and most are quite happy to have a candidate come to their door for a change on a summer afternoon or evening.”
